Aristotle was born in Stagira, Chalcidice, some 55 kilometers (34 miles) east of modern-day Thessaloniki, around 384 BC. His name means “best purpose” in Ancient Greek.
During the Classical period of Ancient Greece, Aristotle was a Greek philosopher and polymath. In the Lyceum, he founded a library.
